JUNE 23-25, 2017
ARRL Field Day
Blythe Island Regional Park
Brunswick, GA

ARRL FD 2017 Logo

This year, CCARS teamed up with the Glynn County GARA folks under Special Event call sign "K4J" in category 7A. The event was held at the Blythe Island County Park in Brunswick off Highway 303.

We had over 27 registered main and relief volunteer operators and quite a few visitors. The location was perfect; a covered pavillion on a level, grassy area adjacent to a small pond with plenty of room for antennas. And with 7 active stations, there was no shortage of antennas! There was lots of great food to keep everybody full, and with a combination of Phone / CW / Digital / GOTA / and VHF/UHF staions, no shortage of opportunities for operators new and old to work different modes.

On Saturday, W4ULB led a tape measure antenna building class for a group of children (with plenty of adults intently watching too) followed by a fox hunt (thanks to Bill KK4AVB).

Despite the distance between all the stations, our hybrid wired/wifi network logging system was a huge asset, thanks to the efforts of Scotty KK4JMW. Mickey, KM4ORS, hauled her 27 foot horse trailer up from Florida and it was converted to a spacious, climate controlled operating space for several stations. Thank you Mickey! As with every year, Murphy was in full swing, but we triumphed.

In 2016, there were 53 Georgia stations that participated, and only 18 total in the country operating 7A (0 in GA). With all the contacts and bonus points we earned, the finaly point total should be very close to 3200 this year, a very respectable effort. Many thanks to all who participated, operated, or just supported the effort:
